Everyone loves opening a book and starting right in the middle of an action-packed fight. Many writers are eager to hit that one scene, so much that they sometimes forget the context the readers need to understand the story itself. the jump right into that amazing battle scene, forgetting that the reader doesn't know what's going on.
to the reader it's like living life with horse blinders on. or watching through a small window. they don't know what's going on and in some cases, they don't even know the characters.

Writers, especially newbies, often try to sound more sophisticated than they need to. This is referred to as flowery language. It's a term used when a writer substitutes a simple word for an elaborate one.
While it can help by making writers' work more descriptive and make them sound more professional, it's a double-edged sword. Overuse of flowery language can get in the way of the stories ability to move forward as well as confuse the readers By using, for instance, hard instead of obstinate, you open your work up to a larger audience also, it will be easier to understand. Another thing writers often do that detracts from the quality of the writing is that they tell, rather than show, us what a character is doing.
Now there are some rare occasions where the writer is better off telling, not showing. For example, when writing a first-person narrative. This is because the private monologue of the character helps the reader feel and think like the character, thus transporting the reader into the character's consciousness. But, for the most part, it is better to show. Showing makes your writing more vivid and descriptive, helping to engage your readers by allowing them to use their imagination to interpret descriptions. Writers often fall victim to the clutches of editing, especially newbie writers. When writers write, they often have the urge to attempt to edit as they go. They get caught up in trying to produce the perfect piece and suddenly hours go by and they have spent practically no time writing. Not only can this be very frustrating for the author but, it can even affect the quality of the writing piece itself.
